Terms of service
Version 0.1-draft · Effective: not in effect yet — draft published ahead of launch
Published ahead of launch. The extension is not available yet and no paid plan is on sale. Items marked To be confirmed before launch are filled in before launch.
1. Who you are agreeing with
These terms are between you and To be confirmed before launch (“we”), the provider of Korean Learning Overlay. By installing the extension or using this website you accept them. If you do not, do not install it.
2. What the service does
Korean Learning Overlay is a browser extension that displays learning subtitles over videos you are already watching, and explains the words and sentences in those subtitles. It works on YouTube, and on Netflix if you enable that separately. It does not host, stream or download any video.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old. If you live in the EU or EEA and are under your country's digital-consent age, use the service with a parent or guardian. The service is not directed at children under 13.
4. Your account
- You only need an account to save words and to subscribe. Subtitles, romanization, pronunciation, speech levels and word cards work without signing in.
- Accounts are created through Google or Apple sign-in. Keep that account secure — anyone who controls it controls yours.
- Connecting the extension to your account uses a single-use code that expires in a few minutes. You can disconnect any connected extension from your account at any time.
5. Acceptable use
- Use the service for your own language learning.
- Do not try to send us content that did not come from a video you are watching, do not automate the service, and do not attempt to bypass usage limits.
- Do not use the service to redistribute subtitles or to build a competing dataset of them.
- Do not attempt to break, overload or probe our systems. Report security problems to To be confirmed before launch instead.
6. YouTube and Netflix
We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YouTube, Google, Netflix or any rights holder. Your use of those services stays governed by their own terms. We read the subtitles their players already loaded in your browser; we do not download video or circumvent any access control. If a platform changes how it works, parts of the extension may stop working until we adapt.
7. Free use and paid plans
- Every feature is available on the free tier. What the free tier limits is how much viewing time per day the overlay runs for. The current limit is shown in the extension popup.
- A paid plan removes that limit. Prices, currency, taxes and the billing period are shown at checkout before you pay.
- Paddle is our merchant of record. Paddle sells the subscription to you, handles payment and taxes, and is the party named on your receipt. Paddle's buyer terms and refund policy apply to the transaction. We never receive your card details.
- Cancel at any time from your account. Cancellation stops the next renewal; access continues until the end of the period you already paid for.
- Refunds are handled by Paddle under their policy. If a purchase was made by a minor without permission, we do not contest a refund.
8. Getting your data out
- Export stays available after a subscription ends. You can download everything you saved from the Account page.
- It is not kept forever. If a subscription ends, your saved data stays for 12 months; signing in resets that period. After 12 months without a sign-in we email you twice and delete it 30 days later.
- You can delete your account yourself at any time. See the privacy policy for what deletion covers.
9. Ownership and licenses
- The extension, this website and our own data stay ours. These terms give you a personal, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use them.
- Parts of our dictionary and grammar data come from openly licensed sources and carry their own conditions, including a share-alike obligation we meet by publishing the derived dataset. See Licenses & attribution.
- Subtitles belong to whoever made them. We display them to you in your own browser and do not redistribute them.
10. Availability
We do not promise the service will be uninterrupted. We may disable a feature remotely if it is breaking a platform or harming users, and we may change or discontinue features. If a change removes something you paid for, cancel and Paddle's refund policy applies.
11. Ending it
You can stop at any time by removing the extension and deleting your account. We may suspend or end your access if you break section 5, or if we are required to. We will tell you why unless we are legally prevented from doing so.
12. Disclaimers and liability
- The service is a learning aid provided “as is”. Automatic analysis of Korean gets things wrong — a dictionary form, a speech level or a translation can be incorrect. Do not rely on it where accuracy matters.
- To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
- Nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by contract.
13. Governing law
Governing law and venue: To be confirmed before launch. This does not remove the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live.
14. Changes to these terms
We will post a new version here with a new effective date. If a change materially affects a paid plan, we will tell you before it applies to you.
